“There's a reason why the first thing we often ask someone, right after we learn their name, is “where's home for you”? Every city – however big or small – has an identity. With this collection I wanted to celebrate the uniqueness of my hometown, St.Gallen.” Albert Kriemler
Since its founding, Akris’ home is St.Gallen, a city with a rich history in textiles that dates back to monks weaving linen in the late Middle Ages. However, it was embroidery, that was first brought to the town around 1750, that would make St.Gallen renowned for its exquisite fabrics. And it is embroidery that has been central to the Akris identity since the beginning and thus is part of every look in this collection.
For the presentation of the Fall/Winter 2021 collection, creative director Albert Kriemler collaborated with the award-winning Dutch film director Anton Corbijn for the second time, to give his vision a cinematic interpretation.
The film reveals a subtle homage to the unique heritage of the Embroidery City. A showcase of empowering looks for a woman on a walk. Liberated, determined, mysterious.
A walk itself was a leitmotif for Albert Kriemler as he designed the collection: “In this very moment, a walk is the most natural encounter there is. The streets, the nature, pavements and parks, are for now a woman’s stage. In and out of town, women are clearing their heads, refreshing their spirits, passing on a good secret, and feeling anew and alive.”
In the first part of the film, a walk is staged at Dreilinden, above the roofs of St.Gallen. A path that is known for its quietude and picturesque views over the city.
Only revealing the colors of the collection in its second part, the film then explores the beauty and intimacy of the Abbey Library of St.Gallen, that is one of the oldest, most important libraries in the world. Dating back to the 7th century, it holds a collection unique for its quality and completeness. It is one of the most significant buildings in town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Watch the magic of the Akris Fall/Winter 2021 collection come to life in the captivating and inventive short film.
